I teach matwork Pilates and beginners are always welcome.
Pilates is a non aerobic form of exercise and much of it is done lying on the floor, and there are very few instances when Pilates would not be an appropriate form of exercise. Class sizes are monitored so that there is the opportunity for close supervision of participants. Careful guidance is given and the basic elements of the moves are introduced over the first 6 weeks. It is important to make me aware of your state of physical fitness, and update me with any changes. It is always advisable to check with your GP about undertaking new forms of exercise and you should definitely do so it you have any doubts or concerns.
Pilates develops a deeper understanding of how muscles function to mobilise the body. Through the first few weeks of training, moves that may initially appear or even feel "easy" become challenging and nuanced as you learn to be more aware of how you are moving, not just what you are moving. Your increased awareness then begins to have an effect on aspects of your life, such as the way you move, your posture and even your driving position. Eventually this becomes second nature.
